This one might be fun to watch, even if we pretty much already know how it ends.Heavyweight sluggers Alistair Overeem and Roy Nelson will face off March 14 at UFC 185 in Dallas. The news was first.Though the specifics of their respective styles vary, in general, both are very inclined to look for a knockout.
Overeem (38-14-1) had a successful kickboxing career before moving to MMA full-time in 2010. The heavily muscled Overeem has very strong muay thai skills that include dangerous kicks and knees. Overeem has notched 16 knockout wins in pro MMA.
When he began his career, Nelson (20-10) was primarily considered a grappler. Over time, however, he gradually discovered and cultivated the dynamite in his right hand, and he has consequently become a head-hunter in the cage. Nelson has used that fist to close the curtain on 13 opponents.
Though both men are dangerous, both also may be working on borrowed time, both in this fight and in their careers overall.
For the former, both men are known to tire in the later rounds. That means the law of averages would predict not just a knockout, but an early knockout. Regarding the latter, at ages 38 and 34, respectively, Nelson and Overeem are two of the more well-seasoned fighters in the UFC
