Australia are setting out to win their first ever Asian Cup competition and looking to build on a disappointing showing at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
This year's hosts joined the confederation in 2007 and came close to winning the competition in 2011, when they lost after extra time in the final.
Japan were the victors that day, securing their record fourth tournament win. A total of 16 teams now have the chance to try to topple Asia's dominant side in a busy schedule which runs from Jan. 9-31.
