Stephanie McMahon Comments on WWE's Domestic Abuse Policy

Domestic abuse issues have recently caused the NFL and other professional sports leagues to clarify their policies. WWE became the latest to do so this week.

In an interview with Marcus Vanderberg of Yahoo Sports, WWE chief brand officer Stephanie McMahon revealed the company's policy against domestic violence.

"We have a zero tolerance policy for domestic abuse," McMahon said. "Upon arrest for such misconduct, our Superstars are immediately suspended, and should there be a conviction, that Superstar or Diva would be terminated."

The official policy on WWE's corporate website echoes McMahon's statement, but it also reveals that the company won't necessarily be hamstrung by potential legal proceedings.WWE's stringent policy comes on the heels of the NFL's reactionary decision to implement specific domestic violence penalties. The case of former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice and others exposed the league's unpreparedness for such a situation. In an effort to avoid a similar situation, WWE is wise to make its stance against domestic abuse blatantly clear to its talent and other employees.

While WWE is viewed as a product predicated on violence by some, it is also an organization that is involved in many positive charitable causes such as Susan G. Komen breast cancer awareness and anti-bullying campaigns.

WWE's policy against domestic violence sends a positive message and will hopefully prevent the turmoil that the NFL is currently experiencing.
