WWE NXT Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from December 18
At NXT Takeover: R Evolution, Kevin Owens made it known to the entire wrestling world that he wants to be the top star in the industry and does not care if he has to go through his own best friend to do so.
Former NXT champion Adrian Neville took exception to the brutal attack on Sami Zayn that closed out last week's two-hour live special and let Owens know about it, leading to a huge main event for Thursday's show.
Relentless, cold-blooded and unforgiving, Owens dominated Neville for the majority of the match and left him in need of medical assistance to close out the show.A ruthless and vile villain, Owens is exactly the type of mood changer that NXT needed.
But he was not the only Superstar to emerge from Thursday's broadcast as a winner. A Diva joined him, while one of the brand's most popular tag teams fell on the loser side of things. There was reason to be concerned for the long-term success of Owens when it was announced that the former Ring of Honor star had signed with WWE. After all, he does not look anything like the traditional main event talent that Vince McMahon produces, and he was more of an old-school brawler than a practitioner of the "WWE style."
If his first two weeks of television are any indication, it does not matter. He was instantly treated like a huge star, with video packages hyping his debut, but then, he found himself involved in the hottest angle in the sport when he attacked Zayn and instantly threw his name into NXT title contention.
Now, he's taking a page from Triple H's book as the type of villain that can take center stage, that can have an entire show built around him. That was the case Thursday night, and one cannot help but enjoy the sense of freshness that the former ROH World Heavyweight champion has instantly injected the show with. How over do Enzo Amore and Big Cass have to be before they get a push of any kind? Every time they appear on television, they draw one of the biggest reactions of the night. Then, with the exception of the Legionnaires feud, they proceed to lose.
That was the case Thursday, as they dropped their match to The Ascension in less than two minutes when Amore got caught trying to impress Carmella at ringside rather than paying attention to his opponents.
For a brand that has done a phenomenal job of repaying its talent's ability to get over with the fans, NXT has done a fairly poor job of pushing Amore and Cassady.Eventually, management will have no choice but to recognize the energy they bring with them and the pops they get on a weekly basis and reward them accordingly.
